Your website account is tied to your IRC nickname: three steps, in this order — reserve the nickname on the network, create the account here, then confirm from that nickname.
⚠ You will be asked for two different passwords: the one for your nickname on the network, and the one for your account on the website. They must not be the same. The website only sees the first one in the forms that ask for it: the fallback identification at the bottom of this page, a channel’s reserved access, and “Forgot password” for a nickname.
Step 1 — reserve your nickname on the network
Your website account relies on a nickname that already belongs to you on the network. If that is not done yet, there are two ways:
From the chat, with nothing to install:
Enter the chat with the nickname you want, then use “Reserve this nickname” in the box at the top right.
From an IRC client, if you have one:
/msg OverNick REGISTER <network password>
⚠ The website password is separate from the network one. Do not reuse the same one: one unlocks your nickname on the network, the other your account here. Reserving the nickname from the chat or an IRC client does not send the first one through the website.
Step 2 — create your account on the website
Identify without leaving the website
A registered nickname is only protected once you have identified. This is usually done on IRC; you can also request it here.
The simplest way is the chat: enter it under this nickname, then use “Identify” in the box at the top right. Your password then goes straight to the service, over the chat connection — it does not pass through the website.
The form below is a fallback, if you have neither the chat nor an IRC client at hand. ⚠ It sends your network password through the website: the web server sees it for as long as it takes to pass it on. It is neither stored nor logged, but it is seen — which happens on neither of the other two paths.
You must be connected to the network under this nickname when you make the request. That presence is what makes the proof: the website decides nothing, it passes the request on — the service checks that someone is wearing this nickname, verifies the password, then opens the identification and tells you so on IRC.
The password asked for is the network one (the one from OverNick REGISTER), not the website one.
